Song 2:8 “Listen! My beloved!
Behold, he is coming,
Climbing on the mountains,
Leaping on the hills!
Song 2:9 “My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Behold, he is standing behind our wall,
He is looking through the windows,
He is peering through the lattice.
Song 2:10 “My beloved responded and said to me,
‘Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along.
What does Our Beloved’s voice sound like when He is calling you to rise up and come away with Him to a new, and higher place. It can be as simple as the Holy Spirit cultivating in your heart a strong longing for more. That is His voice. Of course it can be that still small voice speaking into your spiritual ear, or through a scripture, a prophetic word given by another, or a message taught, or book, or devotional :), or even a dream. There are so many ways that the voice of the Turtledove can speak. I have found though, that one of the primary ways He speaks, calling us to rise up and come away with Him to a place that’s Further up and Further In, is through the very mountains and hills themselves. C.S. Lewis said this, “Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
Through the pain of circumstances, others behavior, or the pain of our own sin, Jesus, Our Beloved, comes to us, not with judgement, but with passion and compassion, shouting at us to rise up and come away with Him. If you are hurting, depressed, confused, feel betrayed, or afraid, or if you are simply full of guilt and self rejection, LISTEN! Your Beloved is speaking, offering hope, and transformation. He is offering a MORE!
