In the desire to experience a consistent manifestation of the glory of the Lord, it has often been prayed, “Lord, we want a habitation, not just a visitation.” We are looking for a sustainable revival on a personal and corporate level where the fullness of Jesus is consistently realized. Amos 5:17 says, “And in all the vineyards there is wailing because I will pass through the midst of you, says the Lord.” There has been a longing among the people of God in both the Old and New Testament that God would not just pass through. We want God to come in fullness and “stay” this time. If that has been your heart then I’ve got great news for you, He has! “For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,” Colossians 1:19. The word “dwell” in that verse literally means “to settle down into” or “settled habitation.”
So the habitation of God’s glory that we are all longing to experience is found in Christ. It’s not just a transit visitation of a portion of God’s glory, but the permanent habitation of the fullness of God’s glory is in Christ. The question is, then how do we access that? Some more great news is that you don’t have to do anything to access that because Jesus has already gained your access into the place of God’s habitual fullness. Through His finished work on the cross, you were placed into His resurrection life, and you now live in union with the habitation of the fullness of God that exists in Christ because you are now in Christ. Colossians 2:9 – 10 says, “For in Him all the fullness of deity habitats in bodily form, and in Him, you have been made full.” We don’t have to plead for God to come and habit with us. He has already postured us into the place where His fullness finds habitation. We simply need to have our eyes opened so that we can see what God has already done, and we can begin to believe and manifest the fullness of God in Christ that is already ours. Jesus is the open heaven, and because of our union with Christ, you and I live every moment under an open heaven. For Christians, the time of habitation has already come. Indeed, we don’t have to settle for visitation. Instead, we can every waking moment enjoy God’s glory. “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is manifested, then you will be revealed with Him in glory.”
