Eph. 2:14 says, “But He Himself is our peace.” Like everything else in the Christian life, peace is Someone in us, not something given to us. Jesus is both our peace with God because we share in His relationship with the Father, and He is the peace of God in us because we share in His relationship with our environment around us in this fallen world. That environment includes circumstances and relationships.
1Cor. 2:16 tells us that we have the mind of Christ, and therefore, if we have the mind of Christ, we have His peace of mind about everything. It is a peace that passes all understanding, because it transcends my personal ability to sort things out. When I’m living from the mind of Christ, I can be confident that Jesus understands everything, therefore, I don’t have to, and He has peace of mind about it all. He is never blindsided, and He is worry free. He is confident in His relationship with the Father, therefore, I can be too. He is confident in His ability to love and deal with the most difficult people. He is never shaken by situations that invade our personal lives, and He is not even slightly anxious about national and world events. He cares, of course, and longs for humans to make choices that are Kingdom oriented, but He has peace of mind about it all. Did you know that you can have a broken heart and a peace that passes all understanding at the same time?
If you find yourself in the midst of circumstances, or in viewing world events, being tormented in your mind, then you are not living from the mind of Christ which is your birthright. In those moments when the enemy is trying to steal from you what’s yours in Christ, just put your foot down and say, “No,” and then in childlike faith, thank Jesus that you have His mind; sink into His peace about it all, and take the next step forward into life experiencing His experience.
