2 Chronicles 29:11, My sons, do not be negligent now, for the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to minister to Him, and to be His ministers and burn incense.”
Song of Songs 4:9-10,12,
[9] “You have made my heart beat faster, my sister, my bride; You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes, With a single strand of your necklace. [10] “How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, And the fragrance of your oils Than all kinds of spices! [12] “A garden locked is my sister, my bride, A rock i garden locked, a spring sealed up. …
I meet so many Christians of this generation that want to make a difference. They long to minister in a way that has relevance, and impact. I believe that this is in part a result of just a momentum of the Holy Spirit that is awakening believers to the limitless possibilities of all that Jesus might do through a laid down life. Also believe that many older leaders have been anointed to call Christians to be world changers, and to think big with God sized dreams. This is all wonderful, and yet the enemy is always lurking about wanting to kill, steal, and destroy that which is legitimate and authentic. While I have noticed, especially in the millennial generation, a longing for relevant, and to God -sized impact, I have also noticed a lot of introspection, disappointment, and discontent. I believe this is because we have gotten things out of order. What I mean by that can be seen in this particular verse from 2 chronicles 29:11, “My sons, do not be negligent now, with the Lord has chosen you to stand before Him, to minister to Him, and to be His ministers and burn incense.” The biggest ministry, and the most relevant ministry that any believer will ever have is the privilege of ministering to the heart of the Lord.
Any ministry that we carry into the world only carries an anointing to the degree that it is an overflow of our first calling which is to minister the heart of God. If you notice those verses from the song of Solomon, it makes it very clear that the thing that brings God the most pleasure are our affections directed toward Him. “Wine “in the song of Solomon speaks of pleasures, and the greatest pleasure that God Himself enjoys is our love. You could be alone in your room and be fulfilling the most important ministry that you will ever steward. In that simple place, where nobody is around to watch, you can give Him your affection, your praise, and your surrender. As you walk about in the public arena your surrendered heart of faith that allows the presence of Jesus to be manifested through your life is first and foremost for His pleasure. You could spend the afternoon witnessing to people the good news of the gospel, and yet the most important ministry that you participated in was your obedience of love, and faith directed towards Him. Whether everybody you shared with responded to Christ, or if not one did, you shook the heavens by being a sweet aroma of the life of Jesus to God. Song of Solomon 4:16c, “… My beloved come into His garden and eat His choice fruits!” Blessing his heart; bringing pleasure to Him, is the most important, and the most relevant ministry you will ever participate in. You can do that through the attitude of your heart on the foreign mission field, or in the office cubicle. Don’t wait and discontent, the world changing opportunity to come around. Instead, ravish His heart, through your surrendered praise in whatever situation you are in. You will never do anything more important that.
