John 3:22
After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing.
John 1:18 says, “No man has seen God at any time, but Jesus has revealed Him.” Everything Jesus did and said revealed the truth about God. If you want to know what God is like, just contemplate the life of Christ. Jesus told Philip the night before His crucifixion, “He who has seen me has seen the Father.” Jesus was not saying He was the Father, but he was saying that He revealed the truth about who the Father was.
In John 3:22, there is a transition from Jesus and his disciples being in Jerusalem at the Passover feast to their spending time in Judea. Notice something very important that it says in verse 22, which tells us something extraordinary about God and His love for us. “Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them.” Jesus was in Judea to spend time – to fellowship – with his disciples. Jesus was revealing something about God, and that is God loves spending time with us. If that statement provokes you to primarily think that in light of the fact God loves to spend time with us, we should spend more time alone in prayer with Him, then you are not really getting the point of what I’m trying to say. Don’t get me wrong; God loves when we linger in the secret place, “spending time with Him.” Those are rich and precious times, but I want you to understand that God loves being involved in everything we do because He loves “spending time with us.”
“For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we are awake (alive on the side) or sleep (alive in heaven), we may live together with Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:9 – 10.
“God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:9 We were created for fellowship with God. The fellowship that we were created for was one of intermingled union, participating in all that he is, and has, and he participating in all that we are and have. Being in Christ means that we have been grafted into him and, he has been grafted into us. He participates in all the daily activities that make up our normal lives. His presence sanctifies all of the common stuff of life. In our serious times, or our times of play and recreation He spends time with us. Worshiping, playing ball with your children, standing over the deathbed of a loved one are things that he shares with us because he loves to spend time with us. He never stands off in disgust. He is always there, in us, with us even in our darkest moments (when it seems we need him most), laughing in our laughter; weeping in our weeping, lifting us up when we’ve fallen, and joining our feeble faith with His perfect faith when we stand up again and start walking. HE LOVES TO SPEND TIME WITH US.
