Ephesians 1 says that all things are summed up in Christ, and Colossians 3: 11 says, that Christ is all and in all. Everything has its origin and its conclusion in him. Colossians 1:16 says, “For in Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities, all things have been created through Him and for Him.”
Look at this wonderful verse in Romans 11:36, “For from Him and through him and to Him are all things.”
This truth, that he is the origin and conclusion of all things ultimately on this earth, is also a truth there is very practical to our daily life as a believer. We live in a time where spirituality seems to be determined by the sensational. Don’t misunderstand me, because Jesus does do sensational things, and longs to manifest his miraculous servant love lifestyle through us in signs and wonders, but the level of sensational does not determine how spiritual an activity might be. I often hear the term “world changer” to describe the kind of believer Jesus is wanting to raise up in this generation, and the idea of a world changer is always defined as someone who has learned to steward the signs and wonders ministry of Jesus. Let me just offer a more biblical perspective to you, and one of the reasons I want to do this is because I often encounter people who caught the vision of being a “world changer,” and yet feel guilty, as if they were failures because, they are not seeing as many signs and wonders yet as they thought they would, or they aren’t doing some big world scene ministry with larger numbers, or on some foreign land. I absolutely do believe that more and more believers are going to be manifesting the fullness of Christ as the victorious one in them, and the miraculous worker through them, in the days ahead, but spirituality is determined by one thing and one thing only, and that is not the nature of the activity, but the origin of activity, that results in his glory. If Jesus is the origin of the activity then watching an old movie with your wife, or with your husband is just as spiritual as healing the blind, or raising the dead. Jesus was just as spiritual to the father when he was eating fish with his disciples as he was when he miraculously catching the breaking net of fish for his disciples. Jesus said that he only did those things he saw the father doing, and so the most casual activity that had its origins in the father was just as supernatural and spiritual as any great sign and wonder Jesus ever performed. I’ve seen several people who were blind receive their sight, and I particularly remember a very petite and frail 15-year-old name Rose in Uganda who sight was restored, but that was no more spiritual of an activity that when I’m playing ball with one of my grandsons, because again, is not the nature of the activity that determines whether or not it’s spiritual, it is the origin of the activity. That origin is Jesus and God gets the glory matter how simple or sensational the task might be. Abide in Christ, and just simply do the next thing in front of you, no matter how mundane it might appear to you compared to some of the Christian biographies you’ve read about the exciting and sensational lifestyle of some missionary on a foreign field, knowing that what you are doing is what Jesus is up to in that moment, and you are therefore well pleasing to God, glorifying him. As a matter-of-fact, there are many things that Christians do that may appear to be sensational that if what they are doing wasn’t initiated by Jesus, then God’s not pleased at all. Just abide, and live. manifesting his presence in whatever activity he delights in.
