How can we sit and walk at the same time? The Bible says that we are seated in the heavenly places in Christ, while at the same time, we are told to walk in the Spirit. We walk from a seated position. We conduct our lives (walk) in this world from our seated position in the heavenly places. We aren’t just seated; we are seated in union with Christ on His throne. Christ is seated (resting) on His throne of authority because His full victory over the reign of sin in our lives was perfectly accomplished in His death and resurrection. He is fully at rest because of His “finished” work. Even though we walk through real situations in life, we are walking through them from a place of resting in His full victory. If you find yourself in a place of exasperation declaring, “I just can’t take this anymore,” then get refocused from heaven’s perspective, and see through the eyes of complete victory in Christ. The person who “can’t take it anymore” was crucified in Him so that the old self who “can’t take it” has been taken out of the way in His death, and the new self that is in union with Christ has access to His limitless adequacy. God has already taken care of the whole situation and there is nothing left for you to deal with, except to thank Him for His ability to not only “take it” but to flourish in the situation with His amazing grace. When you thank Him for His overflowing adequacy, then you are trusting Him to do life through you. You are also by those simple words of faith (“thank you”) acknowledging from heaven’s perspective that being in Christ, you are totally surrendered to Him to choose the situations in which He wants to live and demonstrate His all-sufficiency. Only those who rest in faith rule in the fight. Walking through life seated (while resting) in the heavenly places in Christ releases the atmosphere of heaven every step you take. Living from Christ; not for Christ.
