“Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
(1 Th. 5:24 KJV)
“I will cry to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me.”
(Psa. 57:2 NAS95)
“The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
(Psa. 138:8 NAS95)
A surrendered life does not just involve surrendering all right to sin, but it also involves surrendering any thought that we can do anything about unwanted behavior by our own strength. This is the day when millions of people around the world will make New Year’s resolutions, including Christians, promising that they will do better in some area of their life. For Christians it can be just another attempt to try to do out of sincerity what only God can do in power. I listed those verses above because I wanted you to see what Scripture says concerning the faithfulness of God to perform in us, and on our behalf, all those things that he has called us to. If this is the time where you feel compelled to hit the reset button and surrender an area of your life that you believe has been out of line with God’s will, then that is not a bad thing, but the problem is that if you try to accomplish it with sincere determination, then whatever you have promised to do will ultimately not be sustainable. Jesus didn’t just come to die for our failures, but he came to live inside of us in resurrection power to deliver us from being a failure. In our weaknesses His strength is made perfect, therefore at the beginning of this new year if there are areas of your life you feel needs change or recommitment, then don’t just surrender that area to God’s will, committing yourself to try harder this time to be successful, but in your surrender commit your self to trusting him to alone be the source day by day for personal change. The Lord will accomplish what concerns you when you surrender not just to his will, but to his total ability in you to do His will. Have a happy new year allowing Jesus to live his story, by his power, through your humanity.
