S.S. 4:5, “Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle, which feed among the lilies.
Breasts in the Song of Solomon, as in other places in scripture, metaphorically speak of ministering, caring for (nurturing) others. One of the signs of immaturity in the natural, and spiritually is to mainly think about yourself, and how things affect you. He is affirming her signs of spiritual growth. She is not mature yet, for her breasts are young, but she is maturing. In chapter 8 she says that her breasts are like towers, for she has come to a place of strong maturity in her living a selfless life for others. It’s so encouraging though, that He so celebrates us before we come to strong maturity. He dances in joy over us when He sees the simple signs of a selfless life emerging. Somehow we’ve come to believe that God’s primary attitude towards us is one of disapproval, and disappointment in our walk with Him. We think He is quick to jump on every failure, and when we get it right, His attitude is one of “Well that’s how you are supposed to do it.” The truth is, He dances over every baby step that comes from a heart that loves Him, and wants to bring Him pleasure. Every act of selfless love given to others, for Him, ravishes Him, and is stored in His heart for eternity.
Fawns are innocent, and pure. Cynicism, criticism, and mistrust no longer dominate a maturing heart, that wants to live for others, because self protection, and self promotion no longer dominate. Fawns are very sensitive to everything around them, and when there is a change they move so quickly. As we grow in love, our hearts become very sensitive to the needs of those around us, and we move quickly in response. Remember love is the greatest manifestation of Christ-likeness in our lives. Jesus may have died for the world, but He lived for the one.
