2 Timothy 1:1 says, “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus.” Paul’s assignment in life was to be an apostle. But that assignment was according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus. In other words, with the calling to be an apostle was the promise that the way Paul would perform that assignment was through the life of Christ. That was God’s promise to Paul.
God didn’t call him to go try and be the best apostle he could be for Christ. In other words, he would experience the life of Jesus Christ, and in the context of Paul’s call to be an apostle, he would know the life of Jesus Christ lived through him, doing the work of an apostle through Paul’s unique person and personality.
You or I may not be called to be an apostle, but all of us have an assignment or assignments in life according to God’s will for us. But what you need to know is that whatever the assignment is, God’s made a promise, that the One who has called you promises do accomplish that assignment through you. The gospel is your inclusion in the life that Jesus lives and will live through you in every area of your life, including those unique assignments to be a mom or a dad, husband or wife, banker, nurse, teacher, etc.
In the King James Version, 1 Thessalonians 5:24 says this, “Faithful is he who calls you, who also will do it.”
Stop trying to do your best for Him, and start trusting in His best through you.
