Bible Text: Matthew 27:46 | Preacher: Chuck Jones | Series: Audio Devotionals

Matthew 27:46 NASB About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” that is, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE OU FORSAKEN ME?”

Why did Jesus say, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

On the cross, something happened we can barely understand: All our sins were placed on Him. To put it another way, He became guilty in God’s eyes of every sin the human race had ever committed. Think of it! He was sinless—but He allowed all our sins to be transferred to Him. The Bible says, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

The Apostles creed-
I believe in God, the father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell (this is the original wording)

—In that brief moment when Jesus cried out “why have you forsaken me” was He Experiencing the full punishment for sin on our behalf
—As collective humanity this our cry in His person so that we in our person will never have to say those words.
—God will never forsake us because His Son was forsaken in our place. When Jesus Christ went to the cross
As collective humanity this our cry in His person so that we in our person will never have to say those words
