Is. 66:1 ¶ Thus says the LORD,
“Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool.
Where then is a house you could build for Me?
And where is a place that I may rest?
Is. 66:2 “For My hand made all these things,
Thus all these things came into being,” declares the LORD.
“But to this one I will look,
To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.
Song 1:2 ¶ “May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! (Commandments)
For your love is better than wine.
In light of the Shulamite, in the Song of Solomon, declaring, having tasted His love, that His commandments are like kisses, is it possible that the trembling spoken of in Isaiah 66 is the trembling of joy, not dread. Of course there is a fear of not pleasing Him, and a fear of missing the favor that comes with doing His will, and the consequences of missing out on that favor, but delighting in His will is the true posture of a lovesick heart. Jesus said that if we love Him we would keep His commandments. To stand before Him, trembling with joy at the thought of getting a word from Him, so that we can love Him back through our joyful obedience, is the true heart of The Taken. This what it means to be “controlled by the love of Christ.” To live in the realm of a “joyful yes,” satisfies loves criteria. I always want to stand in awe of The One who holds the vast universe in the span (distance between the little finger and thumb), yet I, even more, want to so love Him that I live with giddy, trembling, anticipation, longing for opportunities to ravish His heart, through my obedience. I want to live in the joyful thrill of of doing what He says, and giving what He takes, and taking what He gives everyday.
