One Thing 7/2/15

S.S. 7:2, You are altogether beautiful my darling, and there is no defect in you.

2Chron. 16:9, The eyes of the Lord run to and fro, looking for anyone whose heart is perfect towards Him.

What a remarkable statement by the Lord. It’s not that He is saying that our behavior is always perfect, but he is saying that He sees a perfect heart as those who’ve given their lives to love Him with all their heart, and to be conformed to the image of Christ. Jesus knows that on this side of eternity no one will have a perfect walk and no one will have perfect theology, but what He’s looking for, and what He delights in, is a perfect heart. Remember what the Bible says about David; it says that he was a man after God’s own heart, yet we know that the Bible makes it very clear that David didn’t live a perfect life. Acts 13:23 says, that David had a heart after God because he was willing to do all of God’s will. Of course, he did not always do God’s will, but the point is, it was his desire, and he had given his life to it.

If you are a new creation, that is a Christian, then sin is not something you delight in, unless you have hardened your heart over a period of time. Even then, deep down, your heart is troubled.  If you have given your life to please God, and you are in active pursuit of that, then Jesus’ feelings about you is that you have no flaw or defect in you. It is important that you embrace this truth, because if you don’t satan will constantly beat you up, to the point of despair, every time you fail. It’s not that God is okay when you sin, but He wants you to know how delighted He is that you care, and that you long for and are pursuing a life that brings Him pleasure. While the accuser of the brethren is standing before the Lord accusing you every time you fail, the Lord is defending you, declaring that there is no defect in you because you have a perfect heart. Remember, the Lord acknowledges your longings, and even your imperfect attempts to love Him, as real love. The enemy of our soul is always accusing us as hypocrites, but if we have sincerely given our all to Jesus, Jesus sees us as true lovers.
