One Thing 5/17/15

Matt. 7:1 “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Having a judgemental, or critical heart can position us to discern out of a spirit of deception. Jesus identifies a judgemental heart as a sin the size of a “log” compared to every other sin which are referred to as “specks.” I believe He sees a judging and critical heart as the worst kind of sin because it is anti mercy. How dare we who are the recipients of extreme mercy withhold mercy from others. Sinning against grace offends His massive heart of love.

Notice also, that there are times when we do need help our brothers to get specks out of their eyes, yet eye surgery is very delicate and precise, not brutal and harsh. Those with judgemental, angry hearts can never do spiritual eye surgery. Jesus says those people have a log in their eye, therefore they are blinded. How can a blind person perform delicate eye surgery. As a matter if fact, how can someone with a log in their eye see (discern) clearly enough to know correctly what’s in the eyes of others. When those with logs in their eyes try to do eye surgery, slaughter is always the result. You can’t do surgery with a machete. Here is a good test for you and others. If your heart is full of anger, criticalness, judgement, and accusation, go ahead and assume your discernment is faulty, because you are too blind spiritually to know what’s really going on in that other person. You can’t have a clue what’s going on in others. Repent of your attitude, allowing the love of Christ to cleans your sight, then you’ll be able, with kindness, sensitivity, and clarity to help remove specks.
