One Thing 4/19/17

2 Sam. 5:20, So David came to Baal-perazim and defeated them there; and he said, “The LORD has broken through my enemies before me like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore he named that place Baal-perazim.

Eph. 1:3, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
In that 2 Samuel 5 passage God is identified as the God of breakthrough. I hear the word breakthrough used a lot by Christians and Christian leaders all over the world. It’s a great word, and again, God Himself says that he is the God of breakthroughs. Therefore, of course, I believe in breakthroughs, and I am praying for breakthroughs in my life all the time. As a matter of fact, the Lord has spoken to us lately that he is breaching barriers, and therefore I have been intensely praying and seeking for barriers to be breached in my own walk with the Lord. That is, that I would cross barriers, or go to places that I’ve never gone before. I don’t want there to be any ceilings that I can’t seem to get past in the Lord. About a week or so ago I was in a city wide worship service, and while I was worshiping I was just again quietly crying out for breakthrough, and as I was quietly praying, while
at the same time worshipping, the Lord Jesus said “I am the breakthrough.” That was such a powerful reminder to me that the Christian life is not a thing, or a blessing; it is a person in whom is all blessings, thus, everything that we’re looking for, and longing for in the area of increase spiritually, is found in the person of Christ. That verse in Ephesians tells us that EVERY spiritual blessing is already ours in the person of Christ. What ever breakthrough you are longing for falls under the catagory of Every spiritual Blessing . Therefore, breakthrough is actually breaking through into a larger experience of the blessings we already have in Christ. It’s not like we’re trying to get something new that we don’t have; we’re simply trying to breakthrough into the experience of something that’s ours already in Jesus.  A larger experience of Him who embodies all breakthroughs.
