Today’s One Thing Devotional

Jump!

JUMP!!  Faith is not for the weak of heart, but it is for the Weak, whose hearts no longer have a taste for defeated, pointless living, whose only point is to play it safe. “The Just Shall Live by Faith”. It so awesome to be among the Just. To know that our sins are forgiven, and that our eternity is safe and secure in the Love of Christ, is a stunning victory, that those of us who once were lost, and condemned will celebrate forever. But, it is as if having secured our safety, Jesus says “JUMP”, “LIVE BY FAITH”. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life waiting for Heaven, knowing I’m safe. I want want to dare, risk, fly, soar, laughing the Laugh of Faith. The truth is, there are no risks at all if you JUMP trusting Jesus. He wonders at our unbelief. He knows who He is and how powerful, and faithful He is. He knows that He is the I Am; the one who is present, able, and available. He knows that JUMPING by Faith in Him, is the safest thing we will ever do. It might look scary (that’s what makes it fun), but it’s really all about IS HE, CAN HE , WILL HE. “Fear not, only Believe.” Don’t ride your brakes today, instead,  just JUMP, LAUGHING!!!

23And after He had dismissed the multitudes, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray. When it was evening, He was still there alone.

24But the boat was by this time out on the sea, many furlongs [a furlong is one-eighth of a mile] distant from the land, beaten and tossed by the waves, for the wind was against them.

25And in the fourth watch [between 3:00–6:00 a.m.] of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.

26And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, It is a ghost! And they screamed out with fright.

27But instantly He spoke to them, saying, Take courage! I AM! Stop being afraid!

28And Peter answered Him, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.

29He said, Come! So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, and he came toward Jesus.

I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Refrain

Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table land,
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where those abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

Refrain

I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

Refrain

I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till Heav’n I’ve found,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
