So many people live their lives without any sense of destiny or purpose. That is so sad when you think about the noble purpose mankind was created for. The Fall has ruined everything, but thank God through Christ He has given us the chance to have our true identity and destiny restored. The famous passage from John chapter 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him”. The word “perish” could be translated “ruin.” That what Jesus came to do; to keep human lives from ruining. He’s not just talking about people not going to hell, though that’s true, but He is talking about the lives we live while still on earth not being ruined. Nothing is sadder than a wasted, and ruined life.
Let’s think about what we were created for. We were created according to Gen.1-2 to be His image bearer; to reveal His likeness. No other creature on Earth shares such a lofty destiny, or called and equipped to fulfill such a purpose. We we created to have an intimate love relationship with the God of the universe; receiving, containing, and displaying His life in absolute utter dependence on Him. Gen.2 says that When God created Man, He breathed the breath of His life into Man, and thus he became a living soul. It took the life of God for Man to be become fully alive. At the Fall when the life of God was withdrawn from Man, he died just as God said he would. No, he didn’t die physically, but he surely died spiritually and at that point, as C.S. Lewis says, Man became bent toward the creature, looking everywhere but God for identity, destiny, and purpose. This is the sad story of fallen Man; created for such nobility and royalty, left scrounging around for the scrapes of this fallen world, hoping to find meaning and purpose. If you are a Christian, then you are Born Again, and are now a New Creation restored to the identity, destiny, and purpose lost in Adam’s Fall. Becoming a Christian is the most life changing, identity rocking, purpose fulfilling thing that can happen to a Human Being. More tomorrow. Have a great day In Christ.
