One Thing 9/9/12

Col. 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col. 3:2 Set your affection (some translations use the word “mind” here) on things above, not on things on the earth.
Psa. 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
Psa. 27:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
Psa. 27:6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

Verse 1-2 of Colossians 3 is a New Testament mirror of Psalm 26:4. We are called to live our lives seeking those things which are above, and when you do, you will find your mind, and affections set on new and wonderful things. You see, verse 1 tells us that when you seek the things above you find Christ. When you find Christ, you gaze on His beauty, and to gaze on the beauty of Jesus is to experience your thought life and affections totally adjusted. It is such an awesome way to live, to have your thoughts, and affections captured by the presence and beauty of Jesus. What an intoxicating life.
Psalm 27:5 talks about days of trouble. Have you ever had any of those? David said because he spent His life pursuing to live in the close proximity of God’s presence, and to behold His beauty, that in those days of trouble, his heart and mind was lifted up above his enemies that were still around him. That place, mentally and emotionally, is where the Lord longs for us to live, even though we might be in the midst of a battle. That secret place, of His presence and beauty, is our great protection. It’s our safe place. It’s a secret place that belongs to me and the Lord, and because it’s our secret place, the enemy doesn’t know how to get to us there. His tactic, therefore is to keep us from seeking the beauty of the Lord so that we can’t find that secret place, because he knows that if we cultivate and find that place, he can’t get to us no matter how much warfare he creates around us. He knows that hidden away there, no matter what he throws at us, our affections and our thought life will stay set on the majestic splendor of Jesus, so instead of offering up anxiety, fear, and discouragement, we will be offering up joy, song, and praise. Don’t let the enemy of your souls keep you from your secret place.
