Rev. 2:2 ¶ ‘I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false;
Rev. 2:3 and you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary.
Rev. 2:4 ‘But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Rev. 2:5 ‘Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place — unless you repent.
The call to live a First Commandment life is an amazing proposition, that is filled with radical realities. If you sign up, a casual life is forever left behind. Most of us live calculated lives in the desire to protect ourselves from being too extended and stressed out, but the adventure of a Lovesick life is all about stretching, and fascinated sacrifice, “wistfully looking to the heights.” The Lord affirmed the Ephesian Church in Revelation 2, for their orthodoxy, theological discipline, deeds, and perseverance. He had one problem though; they had left their first love. He didn’t say they lost it, He said they LEFT it. That word “left” comes from two words, “send,” and “away.” They sent First Love away. They did that by no longer doing the costly “first deeds” that verse 5 refers to. A First Commandment Life sounds very exciting, and it is. Nothing can compare to living in perpetual First Love. It is the most captivating, and exhilarating life you could ever live, but first love will cost you everything. It is extravagant, expensive, exclusive, and expressive. If you want to live a nice paced, casual, calculated, safe Christian life, then don’t sign up for First Love, it will be like a bungee jump that never ends. Scary? Yes, but what a story!!!
