One Thing 7/31/17

Song of Solomon 2:4 “He has brought me to his banquet hall,
And his banner over me is love.”

What a great verse that describes our full riches in Christ to be enjoyed; the condition necessary to draw from all those riches, and the means God uses to bring us to that place. Ephesians says that we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ. The banqueting table is Jesus and all that He is, and all that He has. All of the unlimited resources of God are ours in the person of Christ, who lives in us by the Holy Spirit. There is no need we will ever face that He isn’t the already available provision for. Just think of it; whether it is temptation within, or trials without; the all sufficient grace of Jesus is laid before you to simply take in grateful celebration.

Banners speak of ownership and identity. When ever a tribe of Israel stood or camped under a banner, that banner identified who they were and what tribe they belonged to. For us to abide under the banner of Jesus is for us to acknowledge that we are His. It means that we are under His ownership and authority. It is only resting under the Lordship of Christ are we able to trustfully receive, moment by moment His full supernatural provision for daily life, and it is His massive, unconditional love that subdues our hearts to yield to His rule and ownership of our every decision, and only under His love does the faith to receive His provision grow. Only under His banner of authority can we feast at the banqueting table that is Jesus, but only under a banner of love will we trust Him.
