One Thing 5/1/17

Eph. 1:15 ¶ For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints,

Col. 1:4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints;

Philem. 5 because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints;

1Th. 1:3 constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father,

1Th. 3:6 ¶ But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always think kindly of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you,

1Th. 5:8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.

2Th. 1:3 ¶ We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;

1Tim. 1:14 and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.

Rev. 2:19 ¶ ‘I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first.

Eph. 6:23 ¶ Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1Tim. 1:5 But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
I listed all of these verses because of the connection between faith and love that is spoken of in each one of them. Particularly notice that last verse listed from first Timothy one. It says that love flows from a pure heart and a good conscious and a sincere faith. Love flows from a life of sincere, not shallow, faith. The first two verses I listed speak of faith in the Lord Jesus, and love toward the Saints. When a person is living by faith, and they are trusting all their needs with Christ, they are therefore free to not think about themselves, or to spend every conscious moment trying to figure out how they’re going to get their needs met even in relationship with others. Faith is liberating and frees us to think about others, and to release the love of Christ towards them instead of worrying about them loving us and filling our needs.  When you live by faith, confidently resting in the all sufficiency of Jesus in all matters,  you find yourself joyfully aware of the world, and the people around you.  Having the burden of fear lifted you are free to go celebrate and to give, out of the abundance of a satisfied heart.
Galatians 5:6, says that faith works through love, and these verses that I’ve listed say that love works through faith. In other words, a life of faith flows from a revelation of how much Jesus loves you; and the life of love flows from the faith that is trusting in the life and love of Jesus.
