Mary Visits Elizabeth

39 Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah, 40 and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 “And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me? 44 “For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy. 45 “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

I love this whole section of scripture beginning in verse 26. Their are so many fascinating, and life changing truths here. Today, I want to look at one particular thing that Elizabeth said to Mary. In verse 45 Elizabeth said Mary was blessed because she believed that God would fulfill His word that came through Gabriel. Remember, in our teachings about faith that we said at its heart, faith invokes the activity and ability of God. Mary was blessed to be the Mother of Christ because she believed. In other words, faith brought the blessing. Her faith invoked the ability of God to transcend all the laws of nature, and perform the impossible. A virgin became pregnant.
What if she hadn’t believed. I mean the word she got was pretty ridiculous. Maybe she was just hearing things in her head that weren’t God at all. Maybe it wasn’t a real Angel at all. Could it have just been her imagination, and if it was God, who could believe such a thing. I mean, How. In light of all this she chose to believe, and because of her faith she was blessed. OK, but what if she hadn’t believed. God was going to fulfill His promise beginning in Genesis to redeem mankind. If Mary hadn’t believed God, He would have simply gone to some else to offer the blessing. Don’t let some else who is willing to believe, have the blessing God intends for you.
God has so much for us to enjoy. He longs to use us in extravagant ways, but He in faithfulness acts in response to our faith. Mary was already pregnant in Heaven. God was just waiting for her to by faith transfer her blessing from the realm of Heavenly reality to her reality on earth. She said, “be it done to me according to your word”, and He did it because she believed. Have a great day walking in faith, being blessed by God.
