At the heart of true love is the driven desire to give. True love is not narcissistic. It’s about pleasing the intimate other. It’s about finding your greatest pleasure in their pleasure. For sure, true love feels wonderful, but if you’ve really found it, and are actually walking in it,then your are not so concerned about your desires being met. Instead, you live to meet the desires of their heart, and thus your heart desires are being met. Jesus is the great Lover of our soul, and He loves to give, and give to us. It brings Him such joy to bless us. It is His great pleasure. Their are many ways we can show our love to Him and thus bless Him. One of the primary ways we love Him is through obedience. John 14 says, “if you love me, you will keep my commandments.” As a matter of fact, Song of Solomon says that if we obey Him we ravish His heart. The “Glance” in verse 9 is about intimacy and faith, but “the single strand of your necklace” is about a single act of obedience. Just think, just one little act of selfless obedience ravishes the heart of your Heavenly Bridegroom. Often, our flesh doesn’t want to yield and obey, but when we do, we are saying to Him, that bringing Him pleasure is more important than pleasing ourselves. That is true love and it so blesses Him that it causes Him to swoon under our affection. Wine in the song of Solomon speaks of pleasure, and verse 10 tells us that our selfless acts of affection through our faith and OBEDIENCE brings Him more pleasure than anything in the universe. Oh my, there is so much more to say. I’ll leave you with this, the next time you are tempted to sin or disobey, remember that you have in that moment the opportunity to ravish the the heart of The Lover of Your Soul.
