One Thing (1/15/12)

8Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 9“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 10So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.” 11As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.” 12But she said, “As the LORD your God lives, I have no bread, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.” 13Then Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from it first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son. 14“For thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘The bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the face of the earth.’” 15So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke through Elijah.

Notice the wording from verse 13-16. Elijah steps out in faith, and calls that which is not as though it were. The NASB says in Romans 4 “calls into being that which doesn’t exist.” That’s exactly what faith does, calls that which is not (in the natural) as though it were, and the result is that it calls into being that which doesn’t exist (in the natural, but already exists in the spiritual). God had already commanded the provision, but in verse 14 Elijah voiced the command and thus called the provision forth into the sense realm. That’s what faith does. It agrees with God and gives voice to what He says is already so. By faith we confess with our mouth what we have believed and received in our hearts, and in doing so we invoke the ability of God to transfer that which is already real into the realm we live in.
It says in vere 15 that she went and did according to the word of Elijah, yet in verse 16 it says that the miracle occured according to the word that THE LORD SPOKE which He spoke through Elijah. Amazing. Just think about it, when you step out in faith and confess the promise of God you are actually joining Him, (who has already spoken it as a command in the Heavenlies) and He is actually speaking through you. No wonder the seen world has to obey and yield up the provision. You’ve come in union with the faith of God. The natural is waiting to hear the voice of God concerning the situation, and in faith we give sound to that voice. If that seems too good to be true then hear Galations 2:20 from the KJV which is closer to the proper translation from the Greek. Galatians 2:20

King James Version (KJV)
20I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Notice what it says, we live by the faith OF the Son of God. When we step out in faith declaring a thing as so, when it isn’t so, we come in agreement with God, and our words become His words about the situation, and thus it becomes the FAITH OF JESUS who is the WORD of God. Have a great day, celebrating that truth.
