Lazarus Weekends

Lazarus Weekends were developed as a way to help people get past the obstacles that block their spiritual and emotional growth. Once these obstacles are removed, people are able to experience personal revival and enter into Christ-like ministry with more freedom and power. They are led by Chuck Jones in collaboration with 60 or more people from Christ the King and other churches.  They are held at Christ the King in Selma, AL.

What exactly is a Lazarus Weekend?

In John 11:38-4412:1-2, Jesus called Lazarus forth out of death into life.  As an act of grace, Jesus restored to him the life he had lost.  Even though he was alive, Lazarus was unable to fully enjoy the life he possessed because he was bound by grave clothes.  Jesus intended Lazarus to be free, not just alive.  It was only after Jesus ordered the grave clothes removed that Lazarus was able to see Jesus clearly, rest in His presence, enjoy His fellowship, and freely live.

Like Lazarus, every Christian has been raised to life, and many feel as if they are still bound by their grave clothes.  But unlike Lazarus, who received his same life back, a Christian receives a new life.  In fact, we are entirely new creations, old things have passed away, and the future is full of hope and new things.

So how do we become completely free from the feeling of being bound by the old grave clothes of emotional wounds (caused by others, trauma, etc.), unrepentant sin, unforgiveness, demonic oppression, etc.?  In John 20:8, it says when John entered the empty tomb, “he saw and believed.”  This weekend is about allowing your brothers and sisters to come alongside you to help you see, believe, and leave behind.  See the full extent of what Jesus accomplished for you.  Believe what Jesus says about you is true; you are a new creation.  And leave behind the false things that hinder you from enjoying your new life.

This weekend is not an end in itself; it is simply the removal of barriers in your life that hinder the life of Christ from coming forth in and through you.  We are totally new selves in Jesus, and it’s time we believe that and start acting as if it is true at a supernatural, miraculous level.  God has called us to walk in His Spirit all the days of our lives, and the weekend helps make those days full of freedom and abundant life!

What happens during the weekend?

The weekend is designed so that you receive teaching and an individual prayer time to address your personal needs. You, along with the other participants and those ministering, will spend Thursday night and Friday receiving teachings focused on deliverance and inner healing.  Friday evening all involved will eat supper together and then spend time in worship followed by a Generational Eucharist service.  Saturday each participant receives individual prayer counseling with a team of 2-4 people in a private setting.  Around 4:30, everyone meets back together for worship and Holy Communion.  The Sunday morning service is the final session designed seal all that God has done in you over the weekend.

How can I be a participant?

Lazarus Weekends are held twice a year, one in February and one in August.  It takes 60 people to minister to just 12-15 individuals. The number of participants that can attend is kept small in order for very individualized ministry to take place and an application signed by your pastor and registration fee are required. If you are interested in being a participant in a Lazarus Weekend, download the information and application form and mail it in with your fee to begin the application process.
