One Thing 10/4/17

John 9:1-3, “As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2 , And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”
3 , Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

Have you ever asked the question, “why am I going through what I’m going through. Why is the temptation so strong. Why is the battle, or pain so severe, etc. etc.” It’s easy to fall into the temptation of digging around in deep introspection trying to figure out why things are so hard. As a matter of fact when Jesus was tempted during the 40 days in the wilderness the word the enemy used the most was the little word “If.” He was trying to get Jesus to look within, so that he could get Jesus to perform to prove Himself. During times of battle the enemy, whose voice often sounds like ours, tries to pull us into all the “ifs,” as to what we’ve done wrong to bring us into such warfare. This is similar to what the disciples were doing to this poor blind man in John 9. They assumed that he was blind because somebody had done something wrong; either this man, or perhaps his parents.
Jesus treated their question as irrelevant, and stated that what was really relevant was that God wanted to display His works in this mans life. The second half of verse 3 says “… But it was in order that the works of God might be displayed in him.” The phrase “But it was an order that,” is better translated “But albeit let the works of God be displayed in the Him.” In other words, regardless of why, what’s important is the solution is here.
Christians today spend so much time in introspection trying to figure out why they’re going through what you’re going through that they never get to the answer to their battle. When Jesus confronted human brokenness, and need, He simply revealed himself as the solution. Why are you going through what you’re going through? Ultimately, it is because God wants to display His works in your life!!!
